Long or Short?
I currently at 11,000 words for the first draft of Specimen Three – yeap, got the flow back - and at this number of words, it’s usually the seventh or sixth chapter but right now I’m only at the third O.o
Did I plan this? Not really. I end a chapter when I feel like it – there’s no formula.
I like short chapters because then it’s easier to just stop at the end of one chapter if I have something else to attend to. Long chapters might take a while to complete and I don’t really like to stop reading in the middle of a chapter.
Right now I don’t really see the benefits of a long chapter, but I’ll keep writing in the same manner and see if I continue to churn out really long chapters. If I do then maybe I’ll take this opportunity to try out these really long chapters and see if it does make the reading experience better.
And in case you’re wondering, the third specimen is going to make his appearance in Specimen Two: Ixion very soon =)

thats true, short chapters are easier to end and stuff, but i think its best if you end when you feel like it, if you feel its right. (plus if its longer is a bonus for us readers ;D)
but its tougher when its long and you stop writing in the middle of the chapter, for me at least. i tend to have to reread what i wrote and then get back into the flow of things.
