The One With Sitex 2008 Part 4 – All Pricelists

You can download almost, if not all of the brochures in Sitex from the following link:

http://www.bootstrike.com/itshow2008/

The file size is pretty big but it’s really quite comprehensive.

So many pretty girls =)

Haha, I just came back from Sitex and yeah there were quite a number of attractive ladies out there – mostly selling things no one buys, unfortunately - but that’s not the important thing here.

The important thing is that I’ve found my laptop which is the BenQ S42, but the promotion kind of suck. Currently they’re only offering a free upgrade to 4gb ram, 160gb Toshiba External HardDrive and I think a 1 year extended warranty.

The ram and warranty are normal, considering promotions that other brands are offering, but the hard disk is a little meh. ASUS is offering a 250gb Western Digital Portable Drive - a leading brand in HDD technology - including tiny but important things like a bag and a bloody mouse.

Call me a fussy cheapskate but there was nothing attractive about the promotion or the booth itself.

The entire place felt empty with, initially, so many promoters huddled together that I couldn’t even see the laptop. Then after I came back a couple of hours later, there was like just one kid standing there looking all lost and everything. Even the laptop itself looked dead with a simple demonstration on the screen that was poorly designed to attract attention.

Other booths like ASUS or Sony was like “WOAH!” Bright lights everywhere, with promoters (guys and ladies) looking all charming, lovely, friendly and - most importantly - alive and know what they’re actually selling. Then their laptops are set to playback pretty demonstrations that make you stop and look, so that the promoters can pounce on you and start doing their job.

BenQ is lucky they have an awesome laptop or I wouldn’t have even noticed them.

Anyway, I managed to get my hands on a camera and I took a bunch of photos which I’ll post up by Sunday. Right now i haven’t bought my laptop because of the lackluster promotion, so I’m hoping BenQ will wake up and start making me want to buy from them.

The One With Sitex 2008 Part 3

November 22, 2008 at 7:18 pm (Days of my Life (Journal)) (, , , , , , )

edit: Extensive Sitex 2008 Price Lists added at the end of the post

Here’s a link to the preview of Sitex 2008 which contains some of the products (Including price and available promotion for some) that will be sold during the fair.

HardwareZone’s Sitex 2008 Preview

This is just a preview list which means that not every single products will be listed there.

And here’s a link to the floor plan:

Sitex 2008 Floor Plan

- – -

Looking through the list, there aren’t any products that caught my eye. The laptops are all out of my budget while those that are within it aren’t as good as the BenQ S42 - the laptop that I’m most likely going to get.

I was previously torn between it and another HP laptop but it quickly became clear which one I wanted when I found out that the HP one didn’t have a firewire port, along with other minor differences of course. The firewire port was a deal breaker because there’s a good chance I’ll be using my laptop for some video editing in school.

Other than the laptops I didn’t quite pay close attention to any of the other products. The other gadgets that I’ll be looking out for in the show will be Thumbdrives, Portable Hard Disks and maybe the X-Fi speaker.

5 days to Sitex!

The One With Sitex 2008 Part 2

November 20, 2008 at 8:31 pm (Days of my Life (Journal)) (, , , , )

It’s only 7 more days to Sitex - 7 more days to my very first laptop!!! - and I’m here to update you guys with the floor plan.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

- Special thanks to VR-Zone for the floor plan.

It’s best that you take a look at it and take note of the booths that you intend to visit. Then from there you can use them as point markers to navigate through the entire place. Oh and the most important places to take note are on the top right and left corners.

Yeap, the toilets.

(24) Her Hero and His Love: The Rewrite

November 20, 2008 at 1:16 am (The Pen is NOT Mightier) (, , )

Satisfied.

I finally wrote an ending that I found satisfactory enough to leave it alone. It’s a lot different from HHHL’s ending but I think a lot of people will like it still. To simply describe the difference, I’ll say that the rewrite’s ending is a lot more subtle.

And that’s all I’m going to say.

Now I’ll have to review the entire draft again and start on a new draft (Draft 5) to work on proofreading as well.

*sigh*

I hate proofreading.

The Ending

I’ve been trying out a bunch of different endings for the past couple of days now and I think I’m finally on the right track. Most of the other issues that came up from my last review has been addressed, but the proofreading is still not done yet.

The ending is really difficult to write because I want it to be AWESOME. But for some reason it keeps feeling too rushed or there’s no sense of “OMG WHAT THE HELL? YAY!!!” It’s all very predictable and a predictable ending will forever keep me as an ‘average, so-so writer’.

I want need to be at least ‘Above average’ after writing for more than 2 years.

The One With The Delay

November 13, 2008 at 8:49 pm (Days of my Life (Journal)) (, , )

I am sad.

I’M NOT GOING TO GET MY WORLD OF WARCRAFT EXPANSION PACK!!!

*sigh*

Budget constraint. That’s all I’m going to speak about this because I will start ranting/emoing if I continue. Anyway, I guess it’s a good thing since I can focus on the rewrite until I get it? I don’t know… I’ve been looking forward to this game ever since it was announced and now I can’t get it – at least, not until I get my new computer.

Worse is, no one is preventing me from getting it, it’s my logic that’s stopping me.

And I’ll leave it at that.

Looking on the bright side, it’s only two weeks more to my new laptop AND desktop!!!

The One where It’s A Busy Week

November 11, 2008 at 1:37 am (Days of my Life (Journal)) (, , , , , , , , )

The final week of the block - I really need to write a post about my school’s timetable block system - is always the busiest week, because we’re given our final assignment the previous week. And that means I have to finish my final assignments (I’m talking two modules) which leaves not so much time for other stuff.

I’m still writing every night, doing just simple corrections these couple of days because I’m usually too tired to think of creative things. But I’ve woken up at 3am in the morning two or three times this month just to write down some idea that came to me.

Crazy? Yeah I know.

Plus, this Friday is going to be the release of World Of Warcraft’s second expansion pack! And it is like just telling me to stop writing and enjoy the game for like a whole week before I resume. But of course I’m not going to do that. I might do a little less writing but I’m not going to stop entirely. Right now the rewrite is giving me some problems as well but I’ll discuss on another post in the proper category.

Oh and once this week is over, it’ll be exactly two more weeks to SITEX where I will hopefully get my VERY FIRST laptop!

*runs around screaming like a psycho who left the asylum too early until I run into a wall and knock myself out*

I think some of my friends think that I’ll never get a laptop - both Poly friends and old friends - because I plan too much and wait too long. They think I’m trap in this “But if I wait a few more months, I’ll get something better!” mentality that basically has no end.

The truth is that I do have that mentality, but I’m also realistic. I wanted to get a Macbook earlier this year but I didn’t because new models were coming out - and they did - but I didn’t need it then so I didn’t get one and chose to wait. Now I need a laptop - but no longer a Mac because of the premium price - and I’ve done enough research to tell me that now is also a good time to get one.

So trust me when I say this time that I’m going to get one.

As long as it’s within my budget, that is… =)

NOTE TO SELF: Write a post on Temasek Design School’s block system, and a post on the two laptops I’m looking out for in Sitex.

(22) Her Hero and His Love: The Rewrite

November 9, 2008 at 8:33 pm (The Pen is NOT Mightier) (, , , )

Insatiable Hunger

I’m never going to be satisfied.

Every time I do a review of what I write, I’ll find a certain part of the story where I’ll say, “This can be better.” And it’s a good habit because then I’ll always be improving, but it is like there’s no end to it. The very first story I wrote - it was 150,000 words long - I scrutinized like 9 or 8 drafts yet I still wasn’t satisfied. And the bulk of my dissatisfaction comes from my still very poor writing and storytelling skills.

Basically what I’m trying to say here is that don’t expect this rewrite to be Perfect. I will keep on trying to edit the story until it’s as close to perfection as I can. But it will not be perfect. If I don’t put a stop to myself then you will never see rewrite, at all.

Heck, you would never have seen HHHL in the first place.

But look on the bright side, it’s only the first story =)

I’ve planned for at least 4 more stories (Used to be 5) and every one will be better than the previous. Of course that will depend a lot on you guys. The more feedback that I get the better I can improve myself, which in turn leads to the next story being better.

For those of you who are wondering what I’m going to do after Project M.I.G.H.T, just stop.

Let me get through this first, lol.

The One with Sitex 2008

November 8, 2008 at 1:02 am (Days of my Life (Journal)) (, , , , , , , , , , , )

From the 27th to the 30th of November 2008, the SITEX IT Fair will be held in the Singapore Expo Halls 5 & 6, Atrium 5 and Foyer 2 from 11am to 9pm.

edit: Sitex 2008 Floor Plan added at the end of the post.
edit 2: Sitex 2008 Preview added at the end of the post.

(Click on the image to visit their webpage)

Here’s a list of products (or their categories) that you can expect to find there:

I’ll be heading down there to check out two particular laptops and there’s a good chance I might be getting one. That is… as long as my budget allows it since I still have to get a desktop which is my priority this year.

Anyway, if any of you are intending to buy yourself a gadget then I would highly suggest that you wait for SITEX. You might not find a price slash there but the tradition is that you will get a ton of freebies with what you buy.

And if you’re going there to shop, I also recommend that you drag along that IT geek friend of yours. Why? Simple. It’s because of all the part-timers there who (90% of them) have no clue what the hell they are selling.

For the girls going there, please don’t wear short shorts or short skirts because it’ll be quite crowded and you WILL get groped. For the guys going there, please freaking bath because I - and many others - do not want to get stuck in the crowd with a sweaty chimpanzee. And for crying out loud don’t stare at the models for too long if you’re there with your girlfriend.

If I manage to get my hands on a camera I’ll post up photographs of my trip there =)

First Review!

I just received the first review from my friend who finished the story a couple of days ago. And there are quite a few changes that I need to address, since the problems she pointed out to me were ones that I too felt was an issue.

Proofreading will be put on hold (YAY!) until those matters are addressed =)

Oh and I’m also experiment with a new ending.
